Analgesics

Analgesics, also called as pain killers, are medications that relieve different types of pain - from headaches to injuries to arthritis. Anti inflammatory analgesics reduce inflammation and opioid analgesics change the way the brain perceives pain. Some analgesics can be bought over the counter, others require a prescription.

For example: Analgesics are used
  • 1) after surgery
  • 2) due to injury such as fractured bone
  • 3) for acute (sudden, short term) pain, such as a twisted ankle
  • 4) for aches and pains like menstrual cramps or muscle soreness
  • 5) for chronic painful conditions such as arthritis, cancer or back pain.
